Mira Burack

Mira Burack lives in New Mexico on the unceded land of Pueblo peoples. She is engaged with the materials and living beings in her daily life—plants, textiles, animals, and family—and the interior and exterior spaces around her where meaningful life experiences take place—the bed, the landscape, the table, and the home. How do these elements teach intimacy, engage the senses, provide comfort, heal, invite rest, and elicit pleasure?

Burack’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally including at the CUE Art Foundation, New York; the School of the Art Institute of Chicago; the New Mexico Museum of Art, Santa Fe; 516 Arts, Albuquerque, NM; Muskegon Art Museum, MI; Cranbrook Art Museum, Bloomfield Hills, MI; Media Knox Gallery, Slovenia; Art Gallery of Windsor, Canada; and Kunstverein Wolfsburg, Germany, among others, and she was selected for the 2020 exhibition Women to Watch at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC. She was nominated for a Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters & Sculptors grant and received a Community + Public Arts Detroit grant for the Edible Hut, a community space with a living edible roof. She has lectured, facilitated communal workshops, and was a faculty member at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. Burack received an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BA in Studio Art and Psychology from Pepperdine University.
